During the last several years Norwegian-Russian Bilateral Trade has shown positive growth – from 1 bn dollars in 2001 to 2,3 bn dollars in 2006.

Despite of the positive dynamics, the two countries account for rather insignificant part of the foreign trade of each other - about 0,5-1 %. Sweden, Danmark and especially Finland, all are ahead of Norway by their foreign trade with Russia.

 

 

 

 

   

The assortment of import and export between Norway and Russia remains stable. Traditionally, more than 50% of Norwegian export to Russia is fish and seafood, while more than 50% of Russian export to Norway is metals, hereunder aluminium. In 2006 Russia was Norway's third largest seafood export market (after France and Danmark).

Norwegian interests in Russia are concentrated in the North-West Russia, Murmansk, Archangelsk, St.Petersburg and Moscow. According to the study of NRCC member company Ramboll Storvik there were about 100 companies with Norwegian interests (incl representative offices) in Murmansk and Archangelsk. The last years have seen more and more Norwegian companies exploring also other Russian regions.

Among the major Norwegian investors in Russia one can name Telenor, A-pressen, Orkla, Hydro, Yara International, Statoil, Wenaas Gruppen and DnB NOR. Russian business has not made any considerable investments in Norway, mainly limiting their presence on the market to representative offices or branches, such as Intourist, Aeroflot, Dalmorneftegeofysica etc.
