Visit of the Governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Matvienko to Norway, 16 - 19 November 2006

Valentina Matvienko visited OsloNovember 16-19, 2006 Governor of St. Petersburg Mrs. Valentina Matvienko visited Oslo and Stavanger.

On 17 November within the framework of her visit to Norway, Valentina Matvienko had a number of meetings with the Norwegian officials and businessmen, focusing on the prospects of economic contacts between St. Petersburg and Norway.

During the meeting with the Prime-Minister of Norway Jens Stoltenberg the Governor underlined that St. Petersburg is most interested in cooperation in the field of environment, IT, food industry, oil and gas industry and shipbuilding. During her talk to the Norway’s new Minister of Trade and Industry Dag Terje Andersen, Valentina Matvienko also expressed a hope for intensification of Norwegian companies’ participation in the development of a special economic area being established in St. Petersburg.

The Governor also discussed the problems of tourism with the mayor of Oslo Per Ditlev-Simonsen, stressing that after the opening of direct communication between St. Petersburg and Oslo in spring 2006 the number of visas issued by the Consulate General of Norway has increased by 30%.

The NRCC assisted with forming and placing this delegation and organized a pre-departure orientation.
